BACK to NATURE
PROGRAM
The program is to design a mixed-use commercial space for client Tony Rivera that is located on the 1st floor of Channel Mission Bay Apartment. Tony wanted the space to be light, bright, natural, casual, and simple. Space will be an upscale market with pizza bar, restaurant, and demonstration kitchen.
CONCEPT
We are living in a world that is surrounded by technologies and more people are looking to reconnect with nature. The design intentions are for people to break away from technology and get in touch with mother earth. Also, to design a space where it can give customer experiences on how life was before industrialization with organic, local, and sustainable fresh food while adjusting to a healthier lifestyle. I want to give identity to space, as a place for community gathering and make the customer feel they are back in nature. The design will be incorporated in organic forms, symmetry, and asymmetry of natural form.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
The design will be separated into three different parts. The north part of the market will be used as a restaurant because it is surrounded by curtain walls so the natural light goes in and lit space brightly. The demonstration kitchen connecting the restaurant space and market area. Walk-in refrigerator used by both restaurant kitchen and prepared food kitchen in the market area. For security, the cashier will be located near market entrances and a coffee shop will be located in the south area of the market. It is dedicated to people who want to grab a coffee without having to go through the market.
Market Design will feature a tree-shaped structure surrounding the existing column making it a focal point of the area. The restaurant design features a ceiling design representing flowing water and falling acorn lighting fixtures. The design concept of the restaurant is eating in nature. The demonstration kitchen is a modern and sleek design in residential settings. In the market area, there is an additional space. It is the wine section. The wine section features a ceiling that the design was inspired by a mushroom. that we usually see in the forest. The finishes and materials are also derived from natural color and elements from nature.
